The Axel is a tall, upright cylinder with a single sweeping slit that runs diagonally across the body from one side to the other. The form is simple — a straight-walled tube sitting on a sculptural, cloud-shaped base — but that diagonal cut changes everything. It splits the cylinder into two interlocking halves that overlap at the top and bottom and separate in the middle, creating a wide, luminous gap where unfiltered light spills directly outward. One side of the lamp is closed and textured. The other is wide open and blazing. The contrast between the two is what makes the Axel feel alive.

The honeycomb mesh wraps the closed surfaces, and when lit, you get two kinds of light from one lamp. Through the mesh, the glow is soft, diffused, and warm — the lattice breaks the light into thousands of tiny points that give the cylinder a gentle, lantern-like quality. Through the diagonal opening, the light is direct and bright — a clean, unfiltered beam that washes across walls, surfaces, and whatever sits beside it. The interplay between the filtered and the open creates a push-pull of soft and sharp that gives the Axel depth that a fully enclosed or fully open shade can't match.

The diagonal slash also makes the Axel directional. Rotate it on the base and you control where the bright edge points — toward a wall for a wash of light, toward a chair for a reading glow, toward a corner to open it up. The same lamp creates a different mood depending on which way it faces.

Available in multiple colourways. A light, neutral tone glows warm and honeyed, with the opening radiating golden light. A darker shade holds the form tighter, with the slash cutting through like a bright seam in a dark surface. The sculptural base adds a soft, organic counterpoint to the sharp geometry above it — curves below, angles above.

3D-printed layer by layer from recycled PLA, the cylinder, diagonal cut, and fine lattice mesh are printed as one continuous piece. The base is printed separately in a contrasting texture. No moulds, no joints, no assembly — just material, geometry, and time.
